Italian passport application in Dublin, Ireland

New passport applications must be made by Italians resident in Ireland and registered in AIRE at the Italian Consulate in Dublin only through the portal prenot@ami and in this case can be withdrawn in Dublin.

Who can apply for a passport in Dublin? 

Applications are made in person at the Italian Consulate in Dublin at 63/65 Northumberland Road, Dublin 4, D04 VA89. 

The Consulate accepts Italian passport applications with long notice due to lack of appointments.

The Italian Consulate in Dublin is competent to issue passports to Italian citizens residing in Ireland and duly registered with A.I.R.E.

Residents who have not yet registered can apply for a passport only after uploading their AIRE application online through the FAST IT portal.

To avoid problems and delays in the delivery of the Italian passport as Italian law states the civil status of the applicant the Italian passport is up to date with the Italian authorities, i.e. documents relating to events such as marriage, birth of children and divorce that occurred outside Italy have already been submitted to the Italian consulate in Dublin or the competent municipality.

The Italian Consulate states that if the documentation submitted is complete, the application will be processed immediately and, if there is nothing to object, the passport will be issued within a few days.

Applying for an emergency Italian passport in Dublin

It is possible to request the issuance of an emergency passport only in cases of proven and documented urgency, the passport can be issued without reservation on the dedicated portal Prenot@Mi.

The urgency of the request for an Italian passport must be justified by:

• serious family or health reasons, certified by competent public or private structures or authorities. If the urgency is justified by the need to assist the family member, the certificate must demonstrate this need. These documents must be written or translated into Italian or English. In addition, the applicant must present at the counter the flight reservation or other travel document;
• unavoidable professional needs, justified by a reasoned request signed by the person in charge (indicating the name, function and telephone number of the signatory) and drawn up on company letterhead. In addition, the applicant must present the flight reservation or other travel document at the counter.

It is important to know that the emergency passport application is only for the applicant and not for family members.

Please note that the following proofs of urgency/emergency will not be considered valid: 

• Medical certificates that do not clearly indicate the state of health of an immediate family member;
• Airline tickets or letters from relatives, acquaintances, etc. only;
• Evidence of urgent work commitments justified by messages received by e-mail;
• Self-certification by the applicant of urgent/emergency situations not justified by adequate supporting documentation;
• School trips.

Validity of the Italian passport 

The Italian passport is valid for 10 years, five years from 3 to 18 years and 3 years 0 to 3 years. The Italian passport fee is 116,00 euros for any passport and expiration date.
